Saturday we were set to play Elmwood at home and ended up being rained out after 4 full innings. This game will be resumed July 21 when we go to Elmwood. The game is going to pick up where we left off, in the top of the 5th inning with the score being 4-3 Elmwood ahead. Thanks to everyone who braved the rain while the game lasted!
Last weekend we played two games at home against Bay City and Hager City. Eric Munson was the starting pitcher on Saturday and ended up with the win by a score of 7-4 with Dylan Gausman finishing off the game on the hill. There were several Pirates with mutiple hits in both games last weekend. Sunday, we faced off against the Skeeters, with Dylan Gausman starting this game on the hill for us and Andrew Rozmiarek finishing this game on the mound for his very first Pirate appearance. It should also be noted that outfielder Zach Dolan hit his first Pirate (and career) homerun Sunday against the Skeeters as well! We won this game 9-3. Both games ended up as wins for us which brings our league record to 2-0 and our record overall to 4-1. We will continue league play this weekend at home against the Elmwood Expos with a 1PM start.
We started off our 2018 season in Plum City last weekend, finishing the tournament going 2-1, which was good enough for second place! Game one we took on the River Falls Fighting Fish and started out pretty hot, scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the first. Billy and Mike Brookshaw, along with Logan Johnson led the way offensively with 2 hits each. Eric Munson started the game on the mound for us and ended up throwing a no hitter (near perfect game) as we went on to win 4-0.
Game 2 against the Menominee Eagles started off about the same way as we scored 4 runs in the bottom of the first. Evan Bayer started this game for us on the mound, throwing a solid 6 1/3 innings before Mike Lytle made his first comeback appearance on the mound in nearly four years. Lytle closed the final 2 outs of the game from the mound, which gave us another win by a score of 9-5.
In the championship game we were put up against the Osseo Merchants. A great game from Conner Cress on the hill held the Merchants to only 2 runs and a handful of hits, but we couldn’t string any hits together, as we took our first loss of the season 2-0.
We continue play this coming weekend, Saturday and Sunday. We’ll be at home both days taking on Bay City (Saturday) and Hager City (Sunday), both beginning at 1PM. Sunday, First National Bank of River Falls will be holding their annual tailgate! Their will be both food and beverages available to attending fans throughout the game! Thank you to all of those from the bank that are volunteering their time to show their support to our team, and fans, be sure to thank them for their time as well!
Looking forward to seeing you all this weekend!

We just finished up the regional round of the WBA playoffs Sunday afternoon and came away with two big wins! Saturday afternoon we took on the Interwald Woodticks, winning that game 5-1 behind an outstanding performance by our drafted player Cody Leitner. Cody through all 9 innings and recorded 8 strikeouts on the day. Several players had multiple hits that game as we went on to win.
Our next match-up was Sunday afternoon against the Whitehall Wolves. This game was far and away the definition of a pitchers duel. Eric Munson was on the mound for us, and as usual, dominated the game. Only giving up 2 hits and 1 walk in his shutout performance. Mike Brookshaw drove in our first run of the game in the bottom of the 6th inning on a base hit to left. The outcome ended up 4-0 in our favor, along with an advancement to the State tournament in Viroqua.
Our first game will be played Saturday afternoon at 1:30PM against the Osseo Merchants. We’re looking forward to this match-up and the coming weekend! Thanks again to all of the support from traveling and non-traveling fans!
